Tuesday March 25

Women’s Softball

Rutgers-Newark earned a home doubleheader split against Brooklyn College winning game two 5-2 after losing the first one 4-3 at Alumni Field. Sophomore infielder Vanessa Romero’s 2-out, 2 run double in the fourth came after three hits and two Bulldog errors. Junior third basewoman Toniann Donde, senior shortstop Tiara Santi and freshman third basewoman Anna Carlson loaded the bases, helping propel the Raiders to the win.

Thursday March 27

Men’s Volleyball

The Rutgers-Newark men’s volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart in three sets, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-20. Rutgers sophomore opposite Travis Mintzer raced up a dozen kills but it wasn’t enough in the 3-0 loss at the Pitt Center in Fairfield, CT. Jack Fredricks, freshman outside hitter for the SGA, added eight kills along with sophomore setter Kevin McCandless’ 29 assists along with five kills each from senior middle hitter Brett Pickens and freshman outside hitter Jose Mendez.

Women’s Softball

Rutgers University-Newark notched a doubleheader sweep, 9-1, and 10-0, against Baruch College on Alumni Field in Newark. Rutgers seniors Gabby Spinella and Liane Drastal collected three hits in the wins boating the Raiders record to 9-9

Men’s Baseball

The men’s baseball team exploded for four runs in the top of the ninth to beat Baruch College at MCU Park in Coney Island. Sophomore pitcher Chris Nichols and senior right fielder/pitcher Jimmy Napolitano sealed the 8-4 win with scoreless eighth and ninth innings.

Saturday March 29

Women’s Track and field

Senior Faith Njoku broke the Rutgers-Newark 400-meter dash record, shaving more than a second off of the current time at the Danny Curran Invitational at Hansell Track at Widener University.  Njoku finished with a time of 57.42 seconds, coming in second in a field of 22 to demolish the previous record held by Josephine Polynice of 58.81.

Men’s Track and Field

The Rutgers-University 4×400 meter team took first place at the Danny Curran Invitational Hansell Track at Widener University. Juniors Michael Agyei, Donnie House along with seniors Akin Shoyoye and Chris Happel posted a time of 3:28.61 in the win.
